J10's Cost
The cost for PLAA acquiring the new domestic made J10 fighter was revealed in an internal research paper. It was estimated in the 2003 paper that the purchasing price is about $29 million a piece, and the annual maintenance cost is around $4 million. The per hour operational cost is at $20,000.
In comparison, the purchasing price of Su-27 flanker is $35 million a piece with annual maintenance cost at over 5 million. Per hour operational cost of the Su-27 is around $26,000.
J10 is the cheaper and multitasking fighter of PLAA. The Russian made Su-27 and its Chinese version J11 is the higher part of the high-low pairings of the PLAA.
